AC Shelter Seeks Man Who Abandoned Dog Overnight [PHOTOS]
A man abandoned his dog outside the Humane Society of Atlantic County on Tuesday night, leaving the dog chained outside for over nine hours until staffers found the dog on Wednesday morning.
Shelter Asks for Help Exposing Dog Dumper
Even though some will say that leaving a dog outside an animal shelter is a more caring way of getting rid of a dog than leaving it on the road or elsewhere, dog dumping is a major problem for New Jersey animal shelters and one that they take very seriously.
A Facebook post from the Humane Society of Atlantic County gives you an idea of the lengths they intend to go to find the man who left this poor dog outside their building.
Last night, at 10:16pm, this individual drove to the HSAC, parked down the street from the gas station, walked back to HSAC and abandoned his dog. The car in the picture is his and we have sent our plate reader cameras to ACPD for identification.
This poor dog was tied out all night, in this weather, until staff arrived at 7:30am this morning. While the suspect is attempting to hide his identity, there are videos on six cameras plus AC traffic cameras.
See more photos of the person responsible for this dog dumping below in the HSAC Facebook post.
Pet Abandonment is a Serious Problem
As an animal lover, I am appalled at the rate at which irresponsible owners abandon pets. Dumping a pet is the worst case of abandonment.
Tying an animal to a pole and leaving it in the rain and cold is a crime.
Leaving a dog outside a shelter is called animal abandonment or dumping. This is distinct from a legal "pet surrender," which requires filling out official paperwork and speaking with shelter staff.
The Humane Society of Atlantic County has a page on its website devoted to surrendering animals and how it should be done if necessary.
The Humane Society of Atlantic County is trying to find more information about this abandoned dog. If you recognize the dog or have any information about it being left tied up outside the HSAC on Tuesday night, they would like to talk privately with you.
