Atlantic City firefighters fought a smoky blaze on the 1100 block of Arctic Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

Over 40 members of the Atlantic City Fire Department, Atlantic City Police, and EMS units responded to a wind-swept fire in a townhome development on Artic Avenue at about 3:30 pm Thursday.

According to officials, the crews encountered a fully involved fire with flames extending from both the front and rear of the center unit within a row of townhomes.

Two adjoining units sustained smoke damage. The main unit’s first floor was completely gutted, and the second floor suffered severe fire damage.

Atlantic City Police evacuated residents from the neighboring homes.

A Second Alarm Was Called

Within minutes of arriving, firefighters called a second alarm due to the intensity of the flames and high wind conditions, requiring more crews and equipment.

Four juveniles were triaged at the scene; they either self-evacuated or were assisted by ACPD.

“This was a fast-moving fire, due to the windy conditions,” explained Atlantic City Fire Chief Scott Evans.

“Our firefighters quickly assessed the scene and aggressively attacked the fire, preventing further damage to adjacent structures and potential injuries.”

No one was taken to the hospital, and no significant injuries were reported.
