An Atlantic City man who was charged with shooting another man in the stomach during a dice game in 2022 admitted to the crime in court on Monday.

Ibn Demps, 26, was caught on video pulling out a gun and shooting a man close to him in the stomach.

Gun Violence During a Dice Game

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's office, Demps was playing dice with a group of men in the courtyard of a city housing complex.

At one point, Demp is seen on surveillance video pulling out a handgun and shooting the victim at point-blank range.

Police officers arriving on the 100 block of North South Carolina Avenue at about 4 pm on Sept. 21, 2022, found the victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Police took Demps into custody on Dec. 9, 2022, inside the home where he was seen on camera running into while escaping the shooting scene, according to prosecutors.

Officers found a gun in the home that was tested by the State Police ballistics lab and matched the one used to shoot the victim.

On the day of the shooting, Demps was found to have skipped going to Recovery Court, which is intended to help someone considered to be a nonviolent offender with substance abuse issues.

Demps Faces 8 Years in Prison

On Monday, Aug. 4, Demps pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and weapons charges, prosecutors say.

He is expected to face eight years in state prison and then three years of parole supervision.

He will face a concurrent sentence for violating his Recovery Court session.

In addition, Demps also pleaded guilty to shooting a handgun at a gun range in November 2022 after he lied on forms denying that he was a convicted felon.

Demps is being held in jail until his sentencing later this month.
