New Jersey has a large Jewish population, and tonight marks the beginning of Passover.  As somebody of the Jewish faith, I enjoy all the great Christmas tunes, but there's something special about hearing the Adam Sandler Hannukah songs.

I mean, we may not have many songs, but at least the songs we do have, are pretty freakin' cool.  Even if you're not Jewish, you have to admire a holiday song that manages to fit in the word, "Marjuanica," in it.

Passover is one of the big holidays on the Hebrew calendar.  It celebrates the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian bondage over 3,000 years ago.

Passover is a holiday that lasts 8 days and begins with what's called a Sedar.  This is where the family gathers, usually with friends, for dinner.  There are many symbols that are on the table, each playing a big role in the story of the holiday.

Before eating, the story of Passover is told.  Everybody around the table who can read, takes part in reading the story.  The Haggadah (this is basically a small book) is passed around to each person to read a part of the story.  As the story is read, the various symbols are used during various parts of the story.

As the Sedar comes to its conclusion, a small cup of wine is poured and the front door is opened to welcome the prophet Elijah, who they hope arrives to announce the arrival of the Messiah.

When greeting a Jewish person during Passover, you can simple say "Happy Passover," or you can try saying, "Happy Pesach, -Pay-sock."

That brings me to the point of this article.  After much research, I actually found a catchy song about Passover.  It's not Adam Sandler, but it's pretty cool.  If you're not Jewish, it might spur you to google some of the terms.  Regardless, be sure to share this article with your Jewish friends.  I promise you; they'll appreciate it!
