Happy Mother's Day!  This will certainly be a Mother's Day that we will remember. We are all getting used to a new world and that means new norms for our holidays and celebrations.  Mother’s Day will certainly be different this year. If you are not able to see your mom, your kids, or grandkids this year, there are some ways to still celebrate the day.

I am a big photo person.  I am almost embarassed to say that I have more than 10,000 photos on my Google pictures (that is over many years in my defense).  However, it was not easy to pick the best ones, but I whittled it down to several hundred digital photos from the past 20 years and made a beautiful video with music for my mom.  It is a family timeline of photos of family get-togethers, everyday fun times, and pictures of my parents' grandkids from birth until today. It took me many hours over about a week, but it was truly a labor of love.  I finished it in time for Mother's Day and I am sure it will make her smile and even shed a tear.  I know it did that for me.

From virtual gatherings to video cards and online gift certificates,  here are some ideas from Hackensack Meridian Health on how to honor your mom or enjoy your kids this Mother's Day.

    Virtual Celebrations

Many of us will celebrate Mother’s Day virtually this year. Host a get together on FaceTime, Skype, or House Party. Planning an online ‘party’ with singing, laughter, and food in each home.

    Social Media Love

Share Love on Social Media. If you’re on Facebook or Instagram, share a photo of you and mom with a special message. All of the likes and comments will surely make mom smile

    Video Card or Presentation

Can’t make it to the card store? No problem! Smartphones have made it easier than ever to share thoughtful sentiments that mom can keep forever. Make it a tradition and she can watch her children and grandkids grow throughout the years. Another idea is to make a video of special memories that mom can cherish.  There are a variety of apps and programs that make it easier than ever to edit, add music, and even special graphics.

    Online Gift Card

When you are not sure of what mom really wants, you can never go wrong with a gift card.  Now, Amazon and other retailers offer easy options to send them online.

    Get Moving

If the weather cooperates, be sure to get outside and take a socially-distanced walk with the family, or set up a fun exercise class at home for mom and the kids to do together. Now more than ever, we all need to keep moving for our minds and our bodies.
