Mistakes NJ Employees Make at Work Holiday Parties
This is the time of season when many businesses hold their annual holiday party.
The complexities of our world in 2024 have prompted many businesses to scale down their parties or do away with them altogether.
Cost and legal liability are the most common reasons for the change.
I was recently talking to an old coworker, and we were reminiscing about the holiday parties we've been to.
Our conversation prompted me to develop a list of the 10 biggest mistakes people make at their company holiday party.
1️⃣ Drinking too Much
Know when to say when.
2️⃣ Inappropriate Attire
Dress for a party, not a club.
3️⃣ Negativity
Don't be the person who stands around complaining about the job.
4️⃣ Not Circulating Among the Guests
Use this time to be social with those you don't normally spend time with at work.
5️⃣ Off-Color Jokes
People may laugh, but you risk offending co-workers or bosses.
6️⃣ Flirting or Sexual Advances
Danger! Danger! This is usually connected to drinking and can lead to serious trouble.
7️⃣ Brining an Uninvited Guest
These days, most companies try to do something nice for their employees but have budget concerns. If in doubt, ask before showing up with a guest.
8️⃣ Too Loud
Have fun, but don't be the obnoxious person people talk about the next day.
9️⃣ Talking Business
This one is difficult for a lot of people. However, talking business in this type of atmosphere can lead you to say things you might regret the next day.
🔟 Not Showing Appreciation
Be sure to seek out your host and say thank you.
