Let your heart not be troubled … The famous Irish Pub, Atlantic City, New Jersey is alive and well. It’s not closing forever.

Here’s how a rumor started yesterday.

Social Media Post On Facebook

It was not intended to be malicious in nature, but, in the digital age this is exactly how rumors get started.

The Everything Atlantic City Facebook page does a great job.

A person posted the following:

Just had drinks at the Irish Pub...was told they are closing tomorrow, and staff have no idea if and when it's opening again...anyone know more?

And, from there, it was off to the races since about 6:00 p.m. last night. 139 comments were posted on this thread as of 6:00 a.m. this morning.

Atlantic City Councilman George Tibbitt

Was able to set the record straight. He knows Irish Pub owner Cathy Burke very well.

Tibbitt has spoken with Burke, who confirmed that the Irish Pub will be closed for renovations and deep cleaning.

Irish Pub Has Long Had A Reputation

For doing a great job with repairs and replacements and their clean kitchen. Burke has publicly commented (earlier this year) about their overall cleanliness.

"You could do brain surgery in my kitchen, it's so clean," Burke told the New Jersey publication NJ.com

Biggest Days Of The Year At The Irish Pub

  • New Year’s Eve
  • St. Patrick’s Day
  • The day after St. Patrick’s Day is called “Bag Day” for the past 40 years, for those who had to work on St. Patrick’s Day … to give them the opportunity to celebrate. The bag designs are sometimes very intricate and sometimes little to no effort at all. No bag, no booze.

Irish Pub Renovations

Will begin on January 2, 2026 and continue into much of the month January.

However, the rumor that the Irish Pub is closing forever is patently false.

Cathy Burke has owned and operated the Irish Pub since 1972.

Cathy Burke is one of Atlantic City’s most iconic citizen and philanthropist.
