
Firefighters Brave 4° Temps, Save Pets in Corbin City Blaze
An early morning fire Wednesday at a home in Corbin City tested the abilities of South Jersey firefighters on a frigid night with temperatures close to zero.
They were able to pull three of the family's pets from the burning home.
Fire companies from nine South Jersey fire and EMS units responded to a fire in the chimney and attic of a home in Corbin City.
Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company Gets Call at 2:25 AM
According to a post on Facebook, firefighters from the Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company and the Upper Township Division of EMS were dispatched to a home on Rt. 50 in Corbin City at 2:25 am Wednesday.
The deputy fire chief put the call in for additional units when he saw it was a working fire in the home.
Fire companies from Marmora Fire, Seaville Fire Rescue, Ocean City Fire, Somers Point Fire, Ocean View Fire, Dorothy Fire, and Woodbine Fire companies all responded to help with aspects of the firefight.
Firefighters say due to the aggressive steps they took with the fire, they were able to contain it in the attic area of the home.
Three Pets Were Saved
There was some good news for the family whose home was involved in the fire.
Firefighters were able to get in and safely remove two pet birds and the family cat from the home.
The firefighters remained on the scene in 4-degree weather for four hours fighting the blaze and making sure the scene was safe again.
The fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal.
