The Brigantine Police posted on Facebook on Tuesday about being called to a home on the north end of the island early on Tuesday morning by a resident saying that someone had broken into their home while they were home.

When police arrived, they found a suspect who was taken into custody without incident.  A police investigation found that this wasn't a one-time thing.

Brigantine Police Find Several Homes, Cars Burglarized

In the Facebook post, the police say that an investigation of this break-in led them to several homes and vehicles that had been broken into in the northern part of town.

The police are still working to determine every home or vehicle that was involved. If you believe that your home or vehicle was affected, you should call Brigantine Police and report it at 609-266-7414.

An Increase in Brigantine Crime?

While some locals are reacting as though home or car burglaries are a new phenomenon in Brigantine, crimes such as this happen in every South Jersey town, including all the shore towns.

Although statistics show Brigantine is a safe place to live, crime is a reality in our community.

But you can safeguard your vehicle and your property by following certain precautions.

Make sure to lock all the entry points to your home consistently and consider installing a security camera and motion-activated lighting.

Create the illusion that you are home with timers when you are away. Trim back bushes to eliminate hiding spots, and use deadbolts on your doors.

You should always park your vehicles in well-lit areas, hide valuables, and lock your doors.

It may sound obvious, but many people don't take these steps.
