Don’t Be Alarmed by What You Hear at 177th Fighter Wing

The 177th Fighter Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard is warning you about the alarming sounds you will hear from the base until Sunday and asking you not to be alarmed.

The 177th Fighter Wing will be undergoing a scheduled combat readiness inspection from Wednesday through Sunday.

What is a Combat Readiness Inspection?

Combat readiness training for the 177th Fighter Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard involves rigorous exercises on the base, night flying, and tactical drills to keep pilots and support staff fully prepared for anything from a worldwide deployment to a homeland defence mission.

This readiness training goes beyond what you might be familiar with hearing during the periodic night-flight training at the 177th.

What to Expect to Hear & Experience at the 177th

Here's what the 177th Fighter Wing is saying to expect during the training exercises over the next few days.

During a scheduled combat readiness inspection or exercise by the 177th Fighter Wing, residents, workers, or participants can expect high-stress simulated combat tasks, extended base operating hours, public address system alerts, and loud percussive noises or simulated emergency activities near the security perimeter.

In other words, if you are driving by the 177th base over the next few days, you may see or hear realistic-looking emergencies playing out nearby.

These could include alert sirens over the public address system, potentially loud, percussive explosions, and emergency activities.

It is the kind of thing that could be quite startling if you didn't know what was happening.
