A parent's worst nightmare seems to have played out Monday at a home in Brigantine.

A babysitter hired to watch a toddler while the parents were at work helped herself to the family's liquor and got so drunk she passed out by lunchtime.

Meantime, the unsupervised toddler went out walking in the neighborhood. Luckily, a neighbor saw the child, realized something was wrong, and brought the toddler into their home.

Toddler's Caretaker Found Unconscious

In a Facebook post, Brigantine Police say they received a call at 12:33 pm Monday from a concerned person who found a toddler they recognized as a neighbor out unaccompanied in the neighborhood.

Brigantine Police, fire, and rescue responded to find the caretaker "unconscious and unresponsive".

The babysitter was taken to the hospital and the police and the neighbor watched the toddler until the child's parent could be contacted and returned home.

The Babysitter Was Charged

Police determined that the babysitter, Jena Davidson, 35, of Ventnor, had helped herself to the family's liquor and had drank quite a bit.

With help from the parents, Brigantine Police investigated and found that Davidson had been hired from a " well-known online platform used for childcare".

Police charged Davidson with 2nd-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
