5 Things About Beach Haven’s Chowder Cook-Off Weekend
It is Chowder Cook-Off Weekend on Long Beach Beach Island.
If you are a clam chowder lover like me, that is a very big deal.
The Chowder Cook-Off is also a really good time with a big crowd, live music, food and craft vendors, a merchant mart and more, all for a good cause.
5 Things to Know About Beach Haven's Chowder Cook-Off Weekend
1- The first thing to know, after 34 years as Chowderfest, Long Beach Island’s favorite chowder-filled weekend has a new name...Beach Haven Chowder Cook-off!
The Beach Haven Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Hunger Foundation Of Southern Ocean to bring this beloved community event back to its pre-pandemic greatness.
2- Even during last year's rainy weekend, this great event still bought out about 6,000 Chowda heads, so you can expect a huge crowd with this year's sunny weekend forecast.
One big change is a return to the two-day format with a merchant mart on Saturday and the ticketed Clam Chowder Cook-Off on Sunday with many local restaurants competing for the best Red and White chowders.
Beach Haven's Chowder Cook-off happens at the Taylor Avenue waterfront from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday 10/5 and 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday, 10/6.
3- Wally’s, Surf City, looks to defend its 2023 title in the Red Chowder division and Country Kettle Chowda of Beach Haven looks to repeat in the White Chowder division.
Also competing in the White Chowder category are Chicken or the Egg, Mud City Crab House, Delaware Ave Oyster House, and Joe Pop's Shore Bar.
In the Red Division, you'll also have a chance to try Chowda from Pazone's Pizza, Buckalew's, Lefy's Tavern, and La Bamba.
4- The Beach Haven Chowder Coook-off is more than just a food event; it's a weekend that celebrates local cuisine, supports community businesses, and showcases the delicious chowder recipes of LBI businesses.
The Merchant Mart with more than 75 merchants on Saturday is free.
Beer wine and seltzer can be purchased with digital payments only. Cash won't be accepted for beer sales.
The Cook-off on Sunday is a ticketed event. Tickets purchased on Sunday will be $35 per person. Tickets purchased in advance are $30. Kids under 10 don't need tickets unless they want to vote. If so, they need to purchase a ticket.
5- Live music! What's a party without some good music?
Saturday: Innlet plays from 12:30 - 1:30 pm, Chris Fritz Band from 2 - 3 pm, and Billy Walton Band from 3:30- 4:30 pm
Sunday: East Two Three plays from 11:30 am-12:30 pm, The Pickles from 1- 2 pm, and The Royals from 2:30- 3:30 pm.
