The Cape May County Sheriff is spreading the word about a mounted police training seminar this week.

Mounted Police From the US & Canada

According to a Facebook post from the Cape May County Sheriff, mounted police and their horses from six states, federal law enforcement agencies, and Canada are attending mounted policing training in the county this week.

The Sherriff's Office believes this week's event is the largest mounted policing seminar ever held in New Jersey.

Police from Virginia, New York, and Massachusetts are among those who traveled to Cape May County where training was held Monday at a farm in Middle Township.

Mounted police training techniques for handling crowd control and search and rescue situations are being taught.

The Mounted Police On The Beach & In Cape May

Thursday, mounted police are scheduled to do formation rides in Cape May City and on the beach in Cape May.

The Cape May Sheriff asks that you use caution if you will be in Cape May on Thursday.

During this time there will be two separate groups of horses (appx. 30 each) operating in separate areas. One group will be conducting a formation ride through the City and on the beach, while the other group trains in the area of Mansion Street.

The training on Mansion will involve, simulated crowd situations and may be loud at times and involve smoke. This will occur between the hours of approximately 10am and 3pm; we ask all drivers to be attentive!

Interacting With Mounted Police

This week's training will happen at several Cape May County locations.

The Sheriff's office said in the Facebook post that they know people love to interact with the horses, but you should keep in mind that they are working and training, so there may not be time for socializing.
