Ventnor Schools Go All Remote After Positive Covid Test

Parents of students attending the Ventnor Educational Community Complex received a robocall Sunday informing them that a member of the school community had tested positive for Covid-19 and that the school district was moving to an all-remote schedule this week.

As first reported by downbeach.com, Ventnor Schools Superintendent Carmela Somershoe made the announcement Sunday evening that out of an abundance of caution, all classes will be held remotely this week.

Ventnor Elementary School, with students from Pre-K through 5 grade and Ventnor Middle School, teaching students in 6, 7 and 8th grade are housed in the same building, the Ventnor Educational Community Complex or VECC.

Students are being instructed to log on to the remote learning portal on Monday Nov. 2 and Wednesday, Nov 4. The schools were already scheduled to be closed on Tuesday, Nov 3rd for election day and Thursday and Friday, Nov 5-6 for the virtual New Jersey Education Association Teachers Convention.

The person who tested Covid-19 positive was not identified and it's not known if the positive case is from a student, teacher or staff member. Carmela Somershoe  said further information would be emailed to parents.

Ventnor schools have been on a hybrid schedule this school year, with one group of students attending full day, in person Monday and Wednesday and a second group of students attending full day, in person Tuesday and Thursday. All students have been remote learning on Friday.

There is an all-remote option for families that would prefer not sending their children to school during the lingering pandemic.
