Ventnor Police to Use Summer DWI Checkpoints

Saying on Facebook that their goal is to stop people from drinking and then getting behind the wheel, Ventnor City Police have announced they plan to use highly visible DWI checkpoints this summer.

The idea of publicly posting on social media about these checkpoints is to hopefully discourage people who otherwise might drink and drive.

Officers who have conducted the checkpoints in previous years have reported that more persons are using designated drivers.

The checkpoints real success will be when no DWI arrests are made during the checkpoints, as the prevention of Drunken Driving is the main goal in conducting DWI checkpoints.

Money and Support Available for Checkpoints

Ventnor City Police say funding for the sobriety checkpoints is being made available through Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds, money collected by the Municipal Court in fines and costs levied against people found guilty of driving while intoxicated.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is also providing additional funding for the checkpoints.

Additional officers from other Atlantic County police departments will be assisting Ventnor Police with the checkpoints through an allied Atlantic County police departments program of towns that will also conduct checkpoints throughout the summer.
