Those Copters Over Cape May County Will Help Keep Your Lights On
Atlantic City Electric wants you to know that helicopters you will be seeing flying over parts of Cape May County for the next month are going to help ensure that many people in South Jersey don't lose power in future storms.
Atlantic City Electric is beginning work on the Middle Township to the Wildwoods Reliability Project, a plan to rebuild four miles of critical transmission line which will strengthen the local energy infrastructure against more extreme weather and improve reliability for more than 24,000 customers.

According to a press release, Atlantic City Electric will be using helicopters to remove existing wooden power poles and towers and replace them with new state-of-the-art steel poles that are capable of withstanding winds of up to 120 mph.
The work, through mid-December, will use copters in an innovative and environmentally conscious way to work in the grassy islands near the Wildwoods.
The helicopters will fly from a staging area on Rt 47 in Middle Township to and from the Grassy Sound Island and Channel in West Wildwood.
Atlantic City Electric says these upgrades will create a modern energy grid connecting Middle Township and the Wildwoods that is stronger and more resilient. This improved infrastructure will lead to fewer storm-related outages and better reliability for customers. Construction is expected to be completed by May 2021.
So don't be concerned if you see a helicopter carrying a pole flying overhead as you drive down the Parkway this month. You are witnessing progress in the making.
