In a statement on Facebook, St. Augustine said they were told Saturday by the Atlantic County Division of Public Health that they would have to suspend in-person instruction until Oct. 12 because of two positive Covid-19 cases.

But on Monday, the Division of Public Health said they had learned from the Burlington County Health Department that one of the cases had a confirmed epi-link outside of the school. Cases that are epi-linked developed symptoms while in quarantine.

Those patients were in quarantine because they’d been identified as a close contact to someone who tested laboratory positive for COVID-19.

Based on this review, it determined the school did not have to follow the 14-day closure protocol. The criteria for closing a New Jersey school is two positive Covid-19 cases.

As in-school operations resume at St. Augustine, the school is looking at rescheduling the Hermit's planned season-opening football game with Vineland this weekend.
