Spirit Named Safest, Most Affordable Airline of 2024

Spirit Airlines has heard its share of jokes for its bare-bones way of doing business, but new rankings have Spirit winning titles of the safest and most affordable airline in the US in 2024.

WalletHub's 2024 Ranking Says Spirit Air is Safest Airline

WalletHub, the personal finance website, has revealed its ranking of the top U.S. airlines for 2024 and Atlantic City's primary carrier was a top finisher in the safety category.

Spirit Airlines earned the top spot for safety, with a commendable track record of incidents and accidents per 100,000 flight operations.

Spirit Air finished second in the safety category in 2023.

Spirit Air Repeats As The Most Affordable Airline

For the second year, Spirit Air took the crown as the most affordable option, with flights costing about 5.23 cents per mile in 2024. Frontier Airlines ranked second at just over six cents a mile.

Another category where Spirit did well was reliability. Spirit ranked #1 for the fewest cancellations. That will surprise the people I hear saying their Spirit flight was canceled.

The Overall Best Airlines in 2024

The methodology WalletHub used for the study was a scoring framework allocating points based on three major categories: baggage and departures, in-flight comfort and cost, and safety.

Other metrics included Wi-Fi availability, complimentary refreshments, and operational mishaps.

Alaska Airlines was ranked “Best Airline Overall” with a score of 68.07 out of 100, followed by SkyWest (65.69) and Spirit (61.56).

Frontier and Southwest Airlines scored the lowest on the list at 43.57 and 36.03 respectively.
