Sheriff Joe O'Donoghue and his team in the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office have remained steadfast in their dedication to making our community safer.
The Sheriff and his team have arrested dozens of individuals since he took office.
The arrests have ranged from aggravated assault to weapons violations and drug distribution.
If there is one thing to know about the Sheriff, he is serious.
On December 10, Officer Waszen of the Sheriff's office conducted a stop on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township.
During the stop, officer Waszen developed articulable suspicion that the people in the car he pulled over were involved in criminal activity.
The officer then requested that a K-9 unit join him at the scene.
K-9 officer Hughes, and his partner Ares of the Cape May County Sheriff's Office responded and conducted a sniff search of the vehicle.
This is when a specially trained K-9, is walked around the outside of the the vehicle and sniffs out the scent of drugs.
K-9's sense of smell is said to be 10,000 times more powerful than a human.
The K-9 gave a positive indication of drugs, and that resulted in a probable cause search of the vehicle.
During the search, the officers discovered 9.1 grams of suspected cocaine, a digital scale, a hobby knife with residue, a benefits card belonging to a different individual, as well as various denominations of US Currency believed to be cash proceeds from CDS distribution.
In addition, the officers arrested a passenger in the vehicle on two outstanding warrants.
Arrested were,
🔺 32-year-old Gregory Jenkins, of Pleasantville.
Jenkins was charged with distribution of CDS, possession of CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, and misuse of benefits card.
🔺Shayna Mitchell, a 27-year-old female from Atlantic City
Mitchell was charged with hindering apprehension.
Both individuals are being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting a court date.
The Sheriff reminds us that individuals in this story should be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
