Lite 96.9’s Holiday Food Drive Returns to South Jersey ShopRites

ShopRite has teamed up with Lite 96.9, South Jersey’s Christmas Music Station, in support of the Community Foodbank of New Jersey Southern Branch to help South Jersey families have meals for the holidays.

Throughout November, you’ll spot Lite 96.9's Eddie Davis in front of your ShopRite, where you can support the drive by donating goods to help South Jersey people and families in need.

Who Benefits From the Food Donations?

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey's Egg Harbor Township branch serves anyone in need of food assistance. This includes programs for children and older adults, as well as mobile pantries and assistance with SNAP benefits

In South Jersey's Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland counties, 1 in 9 people and 1 in 7 children are food insecure.

The Community Foodbank of New Jersey estimates that 13.6 % of people in South Jersey face hunger.

18.7% of kids in those South Jersey counties face hunger.

Over 70,000 people are food insecure, including more than 20,000 children, with Cumberland County having the state's highest rate of food insecurity.

This situation is a result of rising food prices and wages not keeping up with the cost of living. 

In addition to the people who are struggling to make ends meet, this year, the Foodbank is also helping federal workers who are impacted by the government shutdown.

What Food is Most Needed?

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) Southern Branch in Egg Harbor Township primarily needs non-perishable, nutritious foods and personal hygiene items.

To ensure your donation is most useful, avoid donating items in glass containers and those that require refrigeration.

• Proteins: Peanut butter, canned tuna or chicken, beans, and canned/bagged nuts.
• Fruits and vegetables: Canned or dried fruits and vegetables (low-salt and packed in water are preferred), and applesauce.
• Grains and meals: Pasta, rice, oatmeal, whole-grain cereals, and canned meals like soup, stew, or chili.
• Dairy: Shelf-stable milk and nut milks are also helpful

Saturdays from 10 AM to Noon at South Jersey ShopRite stores.

Saturday, November 1st – Hammonton

Saturday, November 8th – Egg Harbor Township

Saturday, November 15th – Rio Grande

Saturday, November 22nd – Somers Point
