In the Mayor's Message posted on Friday, Aug 7, Gillian said that after consulting with local hospital officials, he felt he had little choice but to err of the side of caution and avoid any larger gatherings of people in town.

It would be irresponsible to stage events that attract dense crowds. We cannot let our guard down. Please continue to avoid large gatherings and please continue to wear face coverings in all public places.

The latest Ocean City events canceled for 2020 include the annual Baby Parade, the September air shows, the Corvette Show on the Boardwalk, the OCNJ Half Marathon, and the Fall Block Party.

These popular events in the September and October "shoulder season" have loyal followings that bring large crowds to Ocean City who are ready to shop in local stores and eat in local restaurants.
