Get your red on this Friday February 2nd for National Wear Red Day to support Go Red for Women, an initiative by The American Heart Association to increase awareness and prevent heart disease and stroke in women. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women in the U.S., taking the life of one woman every 80 seconds, but we can change that. 

Since Go Red started 15 years ago, women have taken steps to improve their heart health.  As of last year,one third of women spoke with their doctors about developing heart health plans. Nearly 90% of women made at least one healthy behavior change. More than 50% of women have increased their exercise.

We all need to know five important numbers to take control of our heart health: Total Cholesterol, HDL (good) Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and Body Mass Index (BMI). Knowing these numbers can help us determine our risk for developing cardiovascular disease.
