Early Sunday morning, Feb 23rd, someone got the not-so-bright idea to paint graffiti on the new bathroom facilities at the Lincoln Boulevard beach entrance in North Cape May.

To say that this act of stupidity was not well received by locals would be an understatement.

Lower Township Police responded on Facebook Sunday calling it "crappy artwork' and asking for help finding those responsible.

Later the police upped the ante by offering a $300 reward for information that led to the arrest of the guilty people.

Comments from the community on Facebook were even more direct.

Punishment should be summer job cleaning the bathrooms with a toothbrush
That is a shame. Disrespectful idiots
I moved from Philadelphia years ago to get away from this crap!!
Always have to ruin other peoples property! Scumbags!!!

Lower Twp Residents a Wrong

According to Vinny Smith, my initial account of how the graffiti was cleaned is incorrect. It was not the Lower Township Public Works.

Here is Vinny's clarification, with my apologies.

Vinny Smith

Correction : it was three people that live in the community that removed all the graffiti, not the township. Four hours, three cans of paint thinner one can lacquer remover a bundle of rags, sunshine and A lot of laughs. However the township was kind enough to come out with the City manager to Extend his gratitude.
When the township came with the power washer in the morning it did nothing. So we took the matter into our own hands knowing that the township was short staff and it was too disgusting to look at.It’s just a matter of taking pride in where you live

After several hours, the outside of the building looked as good as new.

Calls rang out online for security cameras to prevent something like this from happening again. It's a shame it has to come to that.

It's also an added expense. The cameras, wi-fi, installation. It all adds up because of somebody doing something stupid.

Meantime, the police are looking for anyone in the neighborhood whose home camera system might have picked up any footage of the crime.

The Bathroom Facility Cost $400,000

The bathroom facility that was damaged over the weekend cost over $400,000 to build in 2023. It was a major upgrade from the porta-potties that preceded it.

The heated, ADA-compliant bathroom facility at the Lincoln Boulevard beach entrance is an investment in North Cape May and the fast work repairing the damage got good reviews on Facebook.

That’s is amazing how quickly this was done! Great job thank you so much.
