$5,000 worth of wire stolen from solar site in Monroe Twp., NJ; 2 caught in woods by cops
Authorities in Gloucester County say two people are facing charges in connection to the theft of thousands of dollars worth of wire from a construction site.
The Monroe Township Police Department says on Sunday, April 7th, two officers were walking in a wooded area on the 800 block of Sicklerville Road investigating a stolen propane tank that was reported from a nearby gas station.
Those officers came upon two men, 54-year-old Joseph Mclaughlin and 25-year-old Anthony Pezza, both of Williamstown, allegedly stripping spools of wire in the woods.
The investigation revealed the spools, which had an estimated value of over $5,000, were stolen property that was reported from a Burglary on Friday April 5th by the construction crew working at the Sicklerville Road solar field.
Both men were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and released on a summons.
Police say a further investigation determined that Mclaughlin was responsible for the burglary. He was later charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and refusal to submit to fingerprinting.
Mclaughlin was remanded to the Salem County Jail this past Thursday.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
