Ex-6ABC’s Jamie Apody Tells Her Story in 2nd Statement

During the six months she was off the air at Action News, former 6ABC sports reporter Jamie Apody wasn't heard from.

Over the weekend she issued two statements a day apart.

In the first statement on Friday, which read as though someone else may have written it, she officially resigned from 6ABC.

In the second statement released on social media on Saturday, Apody spoke from the heart and talked about how she felt about her job at 6ABC, her life, her family, and her viewers and fans.

And she spoke about what she hopes for in her future.

She did not divulge the particular circumstances behind her exit from 6ABC. I would bet she is legally prohibited from discussing the end of her employment with the TV station.

A Recap of 18 Years at Action News

Apody wrote in a heartfelt way about her 18 years at 6ABC and the special people she knew along the way, including "her mentor", Action News sports anchor Gary Papa, who died of cancer in 2009, and the late Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas.

Apody listed special moments she experienced covering Philly's biggest sports stories of the past two decades: the Phillies 2008 World Series win, the Eagles 2018 Super Bowl victory, and Villanova basketball's two national championships.

Family Moments Missed because of The Job's Demands

Because most professional sports are played at night, Apody talked about how she missed many special times with her three children while working, and how disappointed the kids were when she wasn't there for their big sports plays in school or to go trick-or-treating with them.

But, she said she never regretted doing her job.

It’s been a sacrifice… BUT… one I have ZERO regrets about, because, I have loved my job with all my heart, and all that I am.

 

Thanks to the Viewers of the "Almighty Action News"

Apody gave thanks to the many viewers of the 6ABC newscasts over the years and the people who grew to consider her a member of the family, those who told her they grew up watching her or realized a woman could be a sports journalist because of her, the first woman television sports reporter ever hired on Philadelphia television.

Jamie had special thanks to everyone who inquired about her and wondered where she was and how she was doing over the last six months when she was off-air at the station she refers to as the "almighty Action News".

Apody Talks About Her Future

Jamie Apody makes it exceptionally clear in her weekend message that she plans to stay in Philadelphia and hopes to be involved in sports broadcasting in the city.

I’m not sure what’s next for me professionally. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a gamer and can’t handle sitting the bench for too long. BUT… I promise WHATEVER my future holds, YOU will always be a part of it.
