A woman from Egg Harbor Township has been charged after police say a child was hit with a bat several times.

Muddasra Afzal of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, Arrested

Authorities say officers with the Egg Harbor Township Police Department were called to a home in the Cardiff section of the municipality just before 9:30 Wednesday night.

According to authorities,

Officer Logan Schettig arrived at the residence and conducted an on-scene investigation. Officer Schettig determined that [a] child had suffered injuries as a result of being struck several times with a bat.

Officers at the scene requested the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad respond to treat the victim, who was taken to a local hospital "for treatment of significant injuries sustained as a result of the incident."

Charges Filed

The alleged assailant was identified as 31-year-old Muddasra Afzal of EHT, who was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Endangering the welfare of children
  • Aggravated assault with a weapon
  • Possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose
  • Child abuse

Afzal was ultimately transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility where she was being held pending a detention hearing.

Authorities did not disclose the age of the child nor his/her relation to Afzal.
