It's not everyday that an elephant turns 140-years old, so a big celebration is in order for Margate's favorite nation landmark, Lucy the Elephant!

The pachyderm party is set for Saturday, July 17 from 10am-8pm, with a rain date of Sunday, July 18.

Make no mistake, this year's party will be no small-time affair, either.

“After last year’s scaled down event due to the pandemic, we are ready to celebrate Lucy’s 140th milestone birthday in grand fashion”, said Lucy Executive Director, Rich Helfant.

By popular demand, the trackless train ride returns for Lucy's birthday, along with new and exciting rides, games, and inflatables.  Another party favorite making a comeback this year is the 9-hole miniature golf course.

Jersey shore treats such as hot dogs, funnel cakes, french fries, and slushies are all on the menu.  And of course, no party at Lucy would be complete without Mackie, the Stiltwalker.

Tours will be conducted inside Lucy every 45 minutes throughout the day, with birthday cake served at 3pm.

This year’s collectible birthday t-shirt will resemble the movie poster from those famous National Lampoon movies of the 1980’s.

All proceeds from the 10-hour fund raiser will go toward Lucy’s re-surfacing project slated to begin in October 2021.

According to Weird NJ. Lucy was hauled on a trailer down Atlantic Avenue to her brand new home on S. Decatur Ave in Margate. The move took place on July 20th, 1970. Lucy also got a complete makeover.

In 2019, for Lucy's 138th birthday, the city of Margate and the Lucy committee voted to approve a brand-new lease that will renew automatically every 5 years. We'll be able to party with Lucy through the year 2039 when she turns a young 158-years-old!

Lucy was born in 1881 and she is a national historic landmark and the oldest roadside attraction in America. Lucy is also the oldest example of Zoomorphic Architecture in the entire world.
