Cream Cheese Recall By Chain on Stockton, Rowan Campuses

The Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of incorrectly packaged cream cheese that could be deadly if eaten by someone with an allergy.

The cream cheese spread was sent to various locations of the nationwide bagel chain, Einstein Bros Bagels, which has two locations in South Jersey: one on the campus of Stockton University, and the other on the campus of Rowan University, and one on the campus of William Patterson University in North Jersey.

Einstein Bagels, which has an estimated 700 locations in over 40 states, is a part of Bagel Brands, a subsidiary of Panera Brands.

The Focus of the Cream Cheese Recall

Schreiber Foods Inc. of Green Bay, WI, voluntarily recalled 144 cases of Honey Almond Cream Cheese Spread late last week because it may contain undeclared almonds.

While the FDA says the product was sent to locations in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming, anyone in New Jersey with a nut allergy may want to double-check their refrigerators.

The product is a six-ounce plastic cup, labeled Einstein Bros. Bagels. The container’s lid correctly reads “Honey Almond,” but the cup reads “Plain,” suggesting it is almond-free.

Additionally, a potentially contaminated product will have a “Best If Used By” date of July 21, 2026, the FDA says.

Officials say the mistake occurred due to a limited packaging staging issue, which was later corrected. A review confirmed the issue was contained to this product only, according to Einstein Bros.

If you find this packaging, you should discard the cream cheese and return it to where you purchased it.

No illnesses had been reported as of Monday.

Einstein Bagel Locations on College Campuses in New Jersey

- Einstein Bros. Bagels in Galloway, NJ, is located at 101 Vera King Farris, inside the Galloway C-Wing of the Stockton University campus.

- Einstein Bros. Bagels in Glassboro, NJ, is located at 600 N. Campus Drive, on the Rowan University campus, in the lobby of the College of Engineering.

- The Einstein Bros. Bagels in Wayne, NJ, is at 300 Pompton Road, on the William Paterson University campus.
