Cops say a man who was a retired Atlantic City police officer was killed Thursday morning in an accident between his motorcycle and a pick-up truck in Egg Harbor Township.

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department says at about 11:45 AM Thursday, their officers responded to Zion Road and Central Avenue in Bargaintown for the report of a crash.

According to authorities, "a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle, that was being operated by Joseph Falcone, 54 years of age from Egg Harbor Township, was travelling west on Zion Road when a 2012 Ford F450 truck, operated by William Wellington, 39 years of age from Egg Harbor Township, attempted to make a left turn onto Central Avenue. The truck crossed into the path of the Harley Motorcycle and there was a serious crash."

Falcone, who was a retired sergeant with the Atlantic City Police Department, sustained multiple traumatic injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Zion Road was closed for about three hours as police conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.

Thursday evening, Atlantic City PBA Local #24 posted a message on their Facebook page, "The men and women of the Atlantic City PBA mourn the loss of retired Sergeant Joseph Falcone. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate the crash.
