Several people were injured in an accident in Dennis Township on Thursday when a vehicle left the road and ran through a guardrail.

First Responders Use Jaws of Life in Rescue

The Dennis Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a crash at Route 47 and Petersburg Road at about 1:55 pm on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The fire company stated in a Facebook post that when they arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle had left the roadway, run through a guardrail, and stopped just before entering Dennisville Lake, also known as Johnson's Pond.

First responders from Squad 18 used the jaws of life to remove the rear door of the vehicle to help rescue several passengers still trapped in the vehicle.

Medical Helicopters Were Called in

Due to the severity of the injuries, two medical helicopters were called to the scene.

A landing zone was established for the helicopters at nearby Union Cemetery. Copters from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and Cooper University Hospital in Camden responded to the crash site.

Several other victims of the crash were transported by ambulance to AtlantiCare and Inspira Medical Center in Vineland.

According to the Facebook post, the New Jersey State Police took control of the accident site. No further information has been given concerning the condition of the crash victims or the cause of the accident.
