In a case so heartless and awful it has garnered national attention, the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter and Vineland Police are searching for who stuffed the dog into a duffle bag and discarded the bag near the railroad tracks just off Crystal Avenue near Park Avenue in Vineland.

A man walking his dog found the bag and took it to the shelter. A representative from South Jersey Animal Shelter says that Coco probably would have died if she hadn't been found when she was.

They have posted a $1000 reward for the tip that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

The dog, given the name Coco by shelter personnel, showed signs of distress when first released from the duffle bag, which in turn was put inside another plastic shopping bag and tied up in a cloth shopping tote.

Shelter officials have said they were "sickened by a blatant act of animal cruelty".

The dog was seen by a veterinarian who said she was underweight and dehydrated. Coco is now staying in a foster home.
