Many of the restrictions imposed on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry because of Covid-19 concerns are about to be relaxed, according to the Delaware River and Bay Authority.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 22, you will again be allowed to travel as a foot passenger or with a bicycle on the ferry. Since December, boarding has been limited to vehicles and their passengers only. During the trip, passengers had to remain inside their vehicles for the duration of the crossing or the outer decks of the ferry boats.

Also Monday, the ferry is reopening indoor seating in a limited capacity and the Cape May terminal building will be reopened. The terminal has been closed except for use of the restrooms.

As of Monday, food and beverages bought on board will be allowed to be consumed in the indoor seating area. Food and drink had been limited to outside because of the stricter coronavirus restrictions.

Certain restrictions and protocols remain in place when traveling on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Travel is still by reservation only, with no cash accepted for booking passage. Cash is still allowed for purchasing food and drinks.

The use of masks and social distancing from anyone not in your traveling party is still required.

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry is on their winter departure schedule, with four departures every day from each terminal.  Additional departures will be available beginning in mid-March.

The ferry was forced to curb service altogether for a time in March, 2020, because of the coronavirus, before resuming limited service later in the year.
