Some computer systems and the website at Atlantic City's Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa have been on the fritz since Sunday as part of an MGM-company-wide "cybersecurity issue".

An operator at Borgata confirmed Monday night that the casino was experiencing the effects of an incident that has shut down certain computer systems and the casino website, which has a message saying it is "currently unavailable".

Reports say the same message has been posted on the website of other MGM-owned properties.

The issue is impacting other MGM Resorts International properties.

"MGM Resorts recently identified a cybersecurity issue affecting some of the Company's systems. Promptly after detecting the issue, we quickly began an investigation with assistance from leading external cybersecurity experts. We also notified law enforcement and took prompt action to protect our systems and data, including shutting down certain systems. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are working diligently to determine the nature and scope of the matter."

In addition to the Borgata, the company has tens of thousands of hotel rooms in Las Vegas at properties including the MGM Grand, Bellagio, Cosmopolitan, Aria, New York-New York, Park MGM, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay and Delano.

The extent of its hacking issue was not immediately known on reservation systems and casino floors in Las Vegas and states including Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York and Ohio, company spokesman Brian Ahern said.

Guests at Borgata's sister properties in Las Vegas are locked out of their hotel rooms and guests from those properties are commenting on social media.

The Borgata told NBC 10 that its hotel rooms are accessible.

According to Duke University, this hacking issue is widespread.

More than 80 percent of U.S. companies indicate their systems have been successfully hacked in an attempt to steal, change or make public important data.
