Jelly the horse, a popular animal at Funny Farm Rescue in Mays Landing, died on Saturday at age 40.

Jelly was the oldest horse at Funny Farm and was known by hundreds of thousands of people, according to a remembrance on the Funny Farm Rescue Facebook page.

Jelly's Famous Pit Story

Jelly is featured prominently in Funny Farm owner Laurie Zaleski's book "Funny Farm, My Unexpected Life With 600 Rescue Animals", where Laurie was forced to get creative in solving problems like when Jelly fell into a service pit.

In a tribute Facebook post, Laurie remembered the oldest horse she ever owned as a "huge part of the farm for many years."

We will miss her greatly, especially her boyfriend Politico who was able to say goodbye. It hasn’t stopped him from running all over the farm looking for her and crying. Seeing his reaction brought a second wave of tears to everyone’s eyes, especially Laurie’s.

Politico, a retired thoroughbred, became Jelly's dedicated partner after her former longtime mate, Peanut Butter, died of asthma.

Jelly's Passing

The Funny Farm Rescue post says Jelly died quickly, most likely from a heart attack.

Laurie Zaleski is asking for anyone who has photos of Jelly to share them with her.

Thank you all for helping to give her the best life ever and making her and us a part of your lives! We are lucky she shares their lives and stories with all of us.
