There are quite a few classic Christmas songs that come to mind this time of year and one of most well-known tunes is "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

After the age of the #MeToo movement, a lot of people have thought that this single -- which was originally written and released in 1949 -- needed to be changed because some of the lyrics are said to elicit to date rape or sexual assault.

So you asked and Kelly Clarkson and John Legend answered.

The two music pop stars released a new, updated version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside," and even changed some of the lyrics.

So here are the original lyrics:

I really can’t stay (but baby, it’s cold outside)

I’ve got to go away (but baby, it’s cold outside)

So very nice (I’ll hold your hands, they’re just like ice)

My mother will start to worry (beautiful, what’s your hurry?)

My father will be pacing the floor (listen to the fireplace roar)

Here are the lyrics for Kelly & John's new version:

I really can’t stay (baby, it’s cold outside)

I’ve got to go away (I can call you a ride)

This evening has been (so glad that you dropped in)

So very nice (time spent with you is paradise)

My mother will start to worry (I’ll call a car and tell 'em to hurry)

My daddy will be pacing the floor (Wait, what are you still livin’ home for?)

This new line was also added into the new version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside":

What will my friends think if I have one more drink? (It’s your body and your choice)

Now before I tell you my thoughts, I must ask you if you are for this new version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

So here's the thing, I hear a lot of people say that this generation is way too sensitive.

HOWEVER, the main difference between now and years ago when the "less sensitive" era took place is that all voices are being heard.

So insults that were once considered socially acceptable are now not being tolerated because everyone's experiences in this world are being considered -- shocking, I know.

Sexual assault is a very serious topic that is not deemed acceptable when it comes to the law and we do try to punish those who break it. (Even though a woman who comes forwards is very often doubted)

However, there are a lot of other subtle themes within our culture today that almost promote this kind of behavior.

The idea that "Boys will be boys" or even the lyrics within this song that depict the male not taking the female's answer that she wants to leave.

You may not see it but changes like these, as small as they may seem, will start to change the attitude of the upcoming generations because a completely different message will be sent to them throughout their years growing up.

A change is needed. I am a 27 year old woman living in a time that I know it needs to improve.

And may I point out that even the daughter of the song's writer admits that she does see how the lyrics can refer to some very negative themes.

“It’s a song my father wrote for him and my mother to sing at parties,” said Susan Loesser. “But ever since (Bill) Cosby was accused of drugging women, I hear the date rape thing all the time."

Okay, that was a lot. Read it. Read it once more because I know, it can be overwhelming.

And may everyone have a great start to their holiday season.
