Absecon’s Citizen of the Year Advocates for the Disabled
Absecon's 2023 Citizen of the Year has been chosen and the winner is not only a wonderful choice but is also one of my favorite citizens anywhere.
Jacob Hackett Chosen as Absecon's 2023 Citizen of the Year
The Absecon Republican Club announced that Jacob Hackett is the recipient of the prestigious non-partisan Citizen of the Year Award for 2023.
"This honor recognizes Mr. Hackett's outstanding contributions to the community, his dedication to volunteerism, and his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others."
A Little Background on Jacob Hackett
I met Jacob when he was 4 years old and one of the first players at the South Jersey Field of Dreams in the Pitney Recreation Park in Absecon. Confined to a wheelchair with cerebral palsy, Jacob was his grandfather Barry Hackett's inspiration for building the Field of Dreams -- a baseball field for kids who never got a chance to play.
Jacob Is an Advocate for the Disabled
Over the years, Jacob has always been a fan-favorite at the South Jersey Field of Dreams where he now serves as the spokesperson.
Jacob has grown up as a role model for the disabled and those who aren't.
He excelled in high school, becoming a member of the honor society at ACIT and receiving the school's Red Hawk Award for caring.
He has been actively involved with Faces 4 Autism, the Hoops Basketball Program for challenged youngsters, and the Atlantic Center for Independent Living.
Today, Jacob is a devoted community member and advocate for the challenged populations, and has demonstrated exceptional leadership and selflessness through his volunteer activities.
