As everyone in New Jersey prepares to go "Back to School" and the start of the High School Football season this weekend, parents should know how your regional high school stacks up against others in the state.

There are over 425 Public High Schools in New Jersey and every year the website Niche ranks all the schools based on grades for each High School's:

Academics, Teachers, Clubs/Activities, College Prep, Diversity, along with Administration, Sports, Resources/Facilities, and Food.

Here is a review of the High Schools from Cape May, Atlantic, and Cumberland Counties that landed in the Top 250 of the 2023 Niche Rankings:

*Mainland Regional High School (Linwood, NJ) - 91st overall
Mainland Regional received an overall "A" Grade thanks in part to their high ratings for Clubs and Activities along with Teachers and Administration. The school received "A-" Grades for College Prep, Academics, and Diversity. Mainland Regional High School has a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1 and according to state test scores, 34% of students are at least proficient in math and 55% in reading.

*Egg Harbor Township High School - 98th overall
EHT High School received an overall "A" Grade thanks in part to their high ratings for College Prep and Diversity. Egg Harbor Township High School received unwhelming grades for Clubs/Activities (B+), Administration (B), and Resources/Facilities (C+). Egg Harbor Township High School has a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1 and according to state test scores, 32% of students are at least proficient in math and 52% in reading.

*Cedar Creek High School (Egg Harbor City, NJ) - 122nd overall
With a High School campus built just over 10 years ago, Cedar Creek received an overall "A" Grade thanks in part to their high ratings for Clubs/Activities, Sports, Diversity, Teachers, and Administration. Cedar Creek High School received just a "B+" grade for both Academics and College Prep along with a "B-" Grade for Resources/Facilities. Cedar Creek High School has a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1 and according to state test scores, 21% of students are at least proficient in math and 61% in reading.

*Cumberland County Technical High School (Millville, NJ) - 143rd overall
Cumberland County Tech received an overall "A-" grade thanks in part to high ratings for Resources/Facilities, Diversity, Clubs/Activities, and Administration. The High School received just a "B+" grade for both Academics and Teachers while receiving demerits for the lack of sports offered at the school. Cumberland County Technical Education Center has a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1 and according to state test scores, 46% of students are at least proficient in math and 70% in reading.

*Absegami High School (Galloway, NJ) - 151st overall
Absegami High School received an overall "A-" grade thanks in part to high ratings for College Prep, Sports, Diversity, and Clubs/Activities. Absegami received underwhelming grades for Teachers (B+), Administration (B-), and Resources/Facilities (C+). Absegami High School has a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1 and according to state test scores, 18% of students are at least proficient in math and 48% in reading.

*Ocean City High School - 171st overall
OC High School received an overall grade of "A-" thanks in part to high ratings for Academics, Sports, and Clubs/Activities. Ocean City High School received underwhelming grades for Resources/Facilities (B-), Diversity (C+), and Administration (C), which we recently wrote about the turmoil with the Ocean City Superintendent situation that you can read about here. Ocean City High School has a student-teacher ratio of 10 to 1 and according to state test scores, 33% of students are at least proficient in math and 63% in reading.

*Oakcrest High School (Mays Landing, NJ) - 195th overall
Oakcrest received an overall grade of "B+" thanks in part to high ratings for Sports, Diversity, Clubs/Activities, and Teachers. Oakcrest High School received a "B-" grade for both Academics and Administration along with a "C" grade for Resources/Facilities. Oakcrest High School has a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1 and according to state test scores, 9% of students are at least proficient in math and 36% in reading.

*Atlantic County Technical Institute (Mays Landing, NJ) - 208th overall
ACIT High School received an overall grade of "B+" thanks in part to high ratings for Resources/Facilities, Diversity, and Clubs/Activities. Atlantic County Tech received underwhelming grades for Academics (B-), Teachers (B-), and Sports (C+). Atlantic County Institute of Technology has a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1 and according to state test scores, 23% of students are at least proficient in math and 54% in reading.

*Hammonton High School - 214th overall
Hammonton HS received an overall grade of "B+" thanks in part to high ratings for Teachers, Sports, and Diversity. Hammonton High School received underwhelming grades for Administration (B-), Clubs/Activities (C+), and Resources/Facilities (C). Hammonton High School has a student-teacher ratio of 14 to 1 and according to state test scores, 22% of students are at least proficient in math and 43% in reading.

*Lower Cape May Regional (North Cape May, NJ) - 236th overall
Lower Cape High School received an overall grade of "B" thanks in part to high ratings for Teachers, Sports, Academics, and Clubs/Activities. LCMR received underwhelming grades for Administration (B-) and Resources/Facilities (C+). Lower Cape May Regional High School has a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1 and according to state test scores, 26% of students are at least proficient in math and 47% in reading.
