"Between the World and Me" - Ta-Nehisi Coates

According to Amazon, "Ta-Nehisi Coates offers a powerful new framework for understanding our nation’s history and current crisis. Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race,” a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of black women and men—bodies exploited through slavery and segregation, and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion." It is a New York Times Best Seller, National Book Award Winner, and Pulitzer Prize finalist.

The Witcher Series - Andrzej Sapkowski

The Witcher has become a popular series on Netflix that was the talk of social media a couple of months back when it debuted. This collection includes three books out of the popular fantasy series translated to English. The description on Amazon states, "For over a century, humans, dwarves, gnomes, and elves have lived together in relative peace. But times have changed, the uneasy peace is over, and now the races are fighting once again. The only good elf, it seems, is a dead elf."

"The Day the Crayons Quit" - Drew Daywalt & Oliver Jeffers

This is one for the kids. Since kids are home from school for the next couple of weeks, you may be looking for things to keep them entertained. The description reads, "Poor Duncan just wants to color. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only letters, all saying the same thing: His crayons have had enough! They quit!...What can Duncan possibly do to appease all of the crayons and get them back to doing what they do best?" This kid's book has over 6,200 ratings and 5 stars.

    "Open Book" - Jessica Simpson

Have I included this book for selfish, biased, and personal reasons? Absolutely, but that doesn't mean it's not a terrific book. It's a #1 New York Times bestseller and the audio book also had hit #1. The Amazon listing states, "Jessica reveals for the first time her inner monologue and most intimate struggles. Guided by the journals she's kept since age 15, and brimming with her unique humor and down-to-earth humanity, Open Book is as inspiring as it is entertaining."

"Eleanor & Park" - Rainbow Rowell

This YA novel is yet another #1 New York Times bestseller. "Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits-smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you'll remember your own first love-and just how hard it pulled you under." Here is just one of the many glowing reviews on Amazon, "I am still wiping my eyes. They refuse to stop weeping. I do not know what ages this book was written for, but I am 81, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I wish I could add an extra star or two. Thank you."

"The Silent Patient" - Alex Michaelides

In just one sentence, this book peaked my interest. This mystery thriller is described as, "The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband―and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive." The Wall Street Journal even drew comparisons to an Agatha Christie mystery, which is high praise.
