It is not a pretty habit and it is one of the toughest to break, but we have some tips to help you stop biting your nails.

We bite our nails for different reasons. Some of us do it when we are stressed or feeling down, nervous, or anxious. Others do it because of insecure feelings, hunger, or just out of plain old boredom.  A good first step to breaking the habit of nail biting is finding out our triggers and find ways to keep our hands and mouth busy. Here are some pointers and things to try the next time you're fighting the urge.

    Try Wearing Gloves

When your hands are covered, you will be less likely to bite them. In order to bite your nails you'd have to take the gloves off, so it would be make you more aware of when you are actually biting your nails. Some people don't even realize when they are doing it!

    Keep Your Nails Cut Short

Cutting your nails short is a good idea because when you try to bite them, you're teeth won't be able to grasp on.. Also, if your nails are already short, then if you bite them they will become too short and hurt. As a result they will probably become red, irritated and swollen, and possibly even bleed.

Coating our nails in something that tastes bad is also a sure way of keeping your mouth away! There are nail polishes with bitter flavoring, meant to prevent nail biting. Or if you don't like spicy foods, you can try putting your fingers in a hot spice, such as chili powder and see if that works!
