So many of us are guilty of being attached to our phones. If you are like the majority of cell phone users, you sleep with your cell either next to you on your nightstand or in bed with you or under your pillow.  But this is a habit many experts say we might want to think twice about.

Here are three reasons you may not want to sleep with or near your cell phone.

    They Emit Radio Frequency

Cell phones emit a small amount of radio frequency waves which are a type of electromagnetic radiation, prompting research about link between cell phones and cancer.  While studies have no conclusive evidence, most experts say  that cell phones are safe to use.Still, the World Health Organization warned in 2011 that usage may be possibly carcinogenic to humans, especially in children, whose scalps and skulls are thinner than adults’, and more vulnerable to radiation.

    Could Keep You Up

Cell phones (and tablets, TVs, and other gadgets with LED screens) give off what’s known as blue light—a type that studies suggest can inhibit the production of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin and disrupt our circadian rhythms. This may be because blue light emits wavelengths similar to daylight, which can make our bodies think it’s daytime, at any time. To fall asleep when you want (and need) to, power down all electronics two hours before bedtime. Better yet, keep your phone and laptop in another room while you slumber.
