An 18-year-old woman is reported to be in critical condition after being shot in the chest Thursday evening.

Vineland Police say they were called out to Inspira Medical Center for a gunshot-wound victim. The victim had been brought to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Police say they determined the woman, from Lower Alloys Creek, was shot within the Center City area of Vineland, inside the vehicle in which she was transported to the hospital. She was eventually transferred to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, where police say she is in critical but stable condition.

The woman's identity has not been released. Police say she was shot in the upper arm, and the bullet lodged in her chest.

Police say detectives have been able to speak with the woman, and with other witnesses. The case remains under investigation.
