Using the latest data from the United States Census Bureau, I poked around in the numbers to see which South Jersey towns had the youngest and oldest median ages.

Statewide, the average age of New Jersey residents is 40-years-old, which is one year older than the rest of the country's median age of 39.

Out of the 21 counties in New Jersey, ten of them have significantly higher percentages of the population that are senior citizens compared to the rest of the state.

Four of those counties are in South Jersey.

The Youngest Towns in South Jersey

According to the data, there are three South Jersey towns that rank among the youngest in the state.

3-  Bridgeton city, Cumberland County: Average age according to 2024 Census estimates = 29

2- Glassboro borough, Gloucester County: Average age according to 2024 Census estimates = 28

1- Lakewood Township, Ocean County: Average age according to 2024 Census estimates = 18. Lakewood is the youngest town in the state.

The Three Oldest Towns in Cape May County

3- Wildwood Crest:  Average age according to 2024 Census estimates = 51.0

2- Sea Isle City: Average age according to 2024 Census estimates =  66.1

1- Cape May Point:  Average age according to 2024 Census estimates =  70.8

The Three Oldest Towns in Atlantic County

3- English Creek, EHT: Average age according to 2024 Census estimates = 60.1

2- Brigantine: Average age according to 2024 Census estimates = 60.6

1- Cologne: Average age according to 2024 Census estimates = 65

The Five Youngest Towns in Cape May County

5- West Cape May: Average age according to 2024 Census estimates =  59.4

4- North Cape May: Average age according to 2024 Census estimates = 58.1
