A sixth grader at Sandman School in Cape May has a featured role in the new movie Babygirl opening nationwide on Christmas day

Skylar Matthews, 12, has a speaking part in the erotic thriller starring Nicole Kidman, Harris Dickinson, and Antonio Banderas.

Skylar Matthews Is a Rising Star

She may be young, but Skylar Matthews has a grown-up resume. Skylar has wanted to entertain since she was seven, according to her dad, Brett.

He estimates Skylar has gone on 300-500 auditions over the past five years.

Lately, she has gotten some choice opportunities, including  the role as Pepper on the Annie National tour, a guest spot on the CBS-TV series FBI, and a growing list of commercial and voiceover work including for Lincoln Automobiles, Netflix and LL Bean.

Hanging Out With Nicole Kidman

Skylar Matthews filmed her scenes for Babygirl  in February on the streets of New York City. Skylar's role was completed in one day, but what a day.

Not only did she share a speaking scene with Nicole Kidman, but she also got to hang out with her in her trailer for a couple of hours, talking and singing together.

Brett Matthews can't be certain that the scene Skylar did with Kidman will make the final cut of the movie because he hasn't seen it yet.

Regardless, Skylar will be paid residuals, have her name in the credits, and spent a pretty fantastic day on set with a major movie star.

A Role in a Movie She Can't Watch

Babygirl is R-rated and is drawing comparisons to other erotic movies such as 50 Shades of Grey.

Kidman plays a high-powered CEO who puts her career and family on the line when she begins a torrid affair with her much younger intern.

Brett Matthews says that Skylar knows some of the plot lines of the movie but not all the details. All she knows for sure is that she's not old enough to see it.

The Cape May Community Reacts to Skylar's Success

Skylar's dad says that her teachers and classmates know about her acting roles and support and encourage her. Most of the time Skylar continues with her normal schoolwork, but she did have to be tutored when on the road with the play Annie.

Brett Matthews is taken with how mature and level-headed Skylar is and how talented. She sings, acts, dances, and does voiceover work, and does them all well.

Skylar's not the only young actor in the Matthews family, either.

Her younger brother, Lincoln, 8, and her sister, Sage, 6, both have already had professional acting jobs.
