The police department in Fenwick Island, Delaware was so surprised to find a red lifeguard stand from South Jersey washed up on their beach that they ran a contest on Facebook asking people to guess where the stand had come from.

Guesses ranged from various beaches in Delaware to Cape May and even Ireland.

And the winning answer was...Ship Bottom, Long Beach Island, about 118 miles north of Long Beach Island and 30 miles south of Lewes DE., where the Cape May Lewes Ferry docks.

For the record, Fenwick Island is just south of Bethany Beach.

Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach, Delaware are nicknamed the "quiet resorts" for their laidback atmosphere, compared to the outlet shopping of Rehobeth to the north and Ocean City, MD to the south.

That's why they didn't let a wayward lifeguard chair ruin their chill attitude.

Several Ship Bottom Life Guard Stands Are Missing

Officials in Ship Bottom say they had noticed that "several' of their lifeguard chairs had gone missing this season, but had no explanation for what had happened to them.

Here's one possible explanation.

Earlier this summer, an Ocean City NJ lifeguard stand missing from Atlantic Avenue was found drifting about a mile offshore by a passing kayaker.

Ocean City Police chalked that finding up to an act of vandalism.

That's the first thing I thought of, too. How 'bout you?
