Wawa Recall Impacts South Jersey Stores

Wawa has recalled store-brand Iced Tea Lemon, Iced Tea Diet Lemon, Diet Lemonade, and Fruit Punch sold in pints at some of its South Jersey and Philly-area stores.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration posted a company statement Friday that said the 16-oz. drinks may include an undeclared milk allergen. The recall affects 123 stores in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.

No illnesses had been reported, the Wawa statement said. People who have allergies to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they were to drink the products, the statement said.

Wawa Says to Throw Drinks Away

Wawa urged customers who have the drinks to dispose of them. The recalled bottles that were in stores have been thrown out, the company said.

The recall does not affect any other Wawa drinks.

The dates on the bottles of the affected drinks were May 15 for the Iced Tea Lemon, May 18 for Iced Tea Diet Lemon and Diet Lemonade, and May 19 for Fruit Punch. The specific stores included in the recall are listed on Wawa’s site.

Drinks May Have an Allergen

The statement said the recall was initiated after the company identified and corrected an equipment issue that may have led to some of the drinks having the allergen.

“Wawa’s primary concern is always for the health and safety of our customers and associates,” Wawa’s statement said. “In the public’s interest, we have removed this product from sales at all of the impacted stores and activated this recall.”

The company said people who bought the drinks can contact Wawa’s 24-hour customer care center with questions or to request a refund in the form of a Wawa gift card.
