Watch Hammonton Singer’s Blind Audition on ‘The Voice’
A local guy had his moment in the spotlight on Monday night's episode of Season 23 of The Voice on NBC.
Jonny Rey, aka Jonathon Triboletti, a 2015 Hammonton High School graduate who played quarterback for the Blue Devil football team back in the day, was featured in the blind audition round.
Jonny's Backstory
If you watch The Voice, you know that they love to do feature pieces on select contestants.
They went all out on Jonny's intro piece, talking about his days as a blueberry farmer in Hammonton (which is a rite of passage for every kid who ever grew up in the Blueberry Capital of the World).
The set-up piece featuring Jonny and his parents told how Jonny realized he had a good singing voice while winning the 'Mr. Hammonton' competition in his senior year.
These days, Jonny helps his dad with the family fencing company, but he would like to be an entertainer.
Jonny's Blind Audition on 'The Voice'
Jonny's song choice for his blind audition song was " Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved", which took real courage considering Adam Levine is back this season as a judge on the show.
Seconds into the performance, Jonny got the ultimate compliment from show host Carson Daly, who said " He sounds better than Adam".
It seemed as though Jonny was on his way to a few chair turns until he ran into some difficulty with the high falsetto in the song's chorus.
And, just like that, it was over. Jonny failed to get any chair turns.
Adam Levine gave a review review of Jonny's performance.
"You did a great job, but I was waiting for the chorus, because in the chorus there's that big falsetto, and you went full voice.
And it's really hard to do. And, so I feel like you cut out a big challenge for yourself, and I'm sorry that it didn't work out this time.
I hope you'll come back and get what you deserve"...
