Get ready, it took a while, but winter is about to arrive.

Depending on where you happen to be in New Jersey, you may see anywhere from 4 inches of snow in North Jersey or little of anything in South Jersey.

According to Townsquare Media's weather guru Dan Zarrow, the state should start seeing wet stuff Wednesday evening into Thursday.

If you have to drive anywhere in the central or northern part of the state Thursday, give yourself extra time.

The big concern is icy, slushy roads throughout most of the state.

According to Dan, people in Northwest Jersey will see up to 4 inches of snow.

North Central Jersey will get about 2 inches of snow.

South West Jersey will get about an inch.

South East Jersey will maybe get a dusting if that.

While Thursday will be messy, there will be more wintry weather this weekend and parts of next week.

While South Jersey shouldn't see much weather impact this week, things could change by Saturday afternoon.

We should see some sleet and freezing rain in South Jersey this weekend.

If it seems like we always seem to get smacked by Jack Frost towards the end of every winter, there may be something to it.

According to NJ.com, February is typically the snowiest month of the year in New Jersey.

The Atlantic City area averages about 5.9 inches of snow in February.

It should be noted that that is an average, and we don't get snow every February.

As we prepare for the icy weather, there are a few things you can do to make life easy.

One thing you should do is make sure you keep a blanket in your backseat (not your trunk).

This can be used in the event your car breaks down and you need to wait for help.

If your car dies, you won't be able to get heat, and the blanket can keep you or your children warm until help arrives.

Another helpful tip is to fill a spray bottle with windshield washer fluid.

You'll want to keep this in your home (safely away from kids and pets).

You'll be able to use this to help de-ice your windows if they freeze over.

Make sure you use the winter blend.  It has chemical components that work well.

Finally, if you hit a patch of ice while driving, take your foot off the brake, and turn into the spin.

As your car corrects adjust your steering.

Of course, the absolute best thing to do when the weather turns bad is to stay off the roads.  Make some hot cocoa and catch up on some old movies.
