Walmart Iceberg Lettuce Recall Hits New Jersey

Today, FDA apologized to us.
Yesterday, FDA informed Taylor Fresh Foods that one of its iceberg lettuce products from central Mexico tested positive for cyclospora. Today, we were informed that FDA made a mistake, and this was a false positive. To be clear, at this moment, FDA has not identified a single positive product test result for Cyclospora.
Based on initial information provided by health officials, in an abundance of caution, we completed a voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce from central Mexico. Recalled product was limited to iceberg lettuce grown and processed in central Mexico.
All other Taylor Farms products, including all Taylor Farms brand products available for purchase, are not involved in the recall.
Our thoughts remain with everyone who has fallen ill in this outbreak. We are committed to working with public health authorities as the ongoing outbreak investigation continues.

New Jersey Walmart has pulled several Marketside Bagged Iceberg Salads from shelves after products from its supplier, Taylor Farms, were linked to the cyclosporiasis outbreak.

The Mexican iceberg lettuce linked to an outbreak of explosive diarrhea was distributed in New Jersey for more than two weeks, according to the company recalling the product nationwide.

Taylor Farms Lettuce grown in Mexico Targeted

The Food and Drug Administration announced the recall, including Taylor Farms shredded lettuce products sold at Walmart and other retailers in 27 states, including New Jersey.

The FDA traced the lettuce to an "independent farm" in central Mexico that represents less than 1% of the U.S. lettuce supply, according to Taylor Farms.

Taylor Farms-supplied shredded lettuce is being removed for a potential link to a cyclosporiasis outbreak.

Symptoms of Cyclospora Infection

Most people infected with Cyclospora develop diarrhea. Other common symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps/pain, bloating, increased gas, nausea, and fatigue.

Vomiting, body aches, headache, and fever are all possible

These complications may last from a few days to a month or longer. Symptoms may seem to go away and then return one or more times

The Lettuce Involved in the Recall

Taylor Farms de Mexico of Guanajuato, Mexico, announced that they are voluntarily removing all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the U.S. market.

Taylor Fresh Foods’ recall notice included Marketside-brand product available at Walmart:

12-oz and 24-oz Iceberg Salad with Best if Used By dates 7/18/2026 to 8/3/2026
8-oz and 16-oz Shredded Lettuce with Best if Used By dates July 18th to Aug 3rd 2026

A complete list of affected products distributed to Taylor Fresh Foods food service customers, including lot codes, use-by dates, and instructions for returning or disposing of the affected product, is available on the company’s recall notice.

“We are working closely with our supplier and took immediate steps to remove the products from sale,” Walmart said in a statement, adding there have been no confirmed cases linked to the Walmart products.

If you have purchased the recalled iceberg lettuce, you should throw it away immediately and do not eat it.
