Today at 10:00 AM, schools all throughout New Jersey have organized National School Walkouts to protest the government's refusal to put stricter gun laws into place.

The date was not chosen on accident either because this protest is occurring on the one month anniversary of the mass shooting that killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

However, something that shocked me is that various school districts are reacting differently to this student-organized protest.

The Sayreville district, for example, plans on giving any student who walks out a two day suspension as punishment!

I feel like this is totally unwarranted and unfair. The students are using their voice to make a difference towards an issue that they feel needs to be changed.

If they physically talk back, the students will be reprimanded for being rude to the authority figure. So, you are literally taking away the one nondestructive way for them to have a voice.

Do you agree?
