Clean Ocean Action's Fall Beach Sweeps are happening this Saturday, Oct. 19 at beaches in Atlantic and Cape May Counties and volunteers are needed.

At New Jersey's largest volunteer environmental event, you can help clean up harmful litter while collecting important data about the trash on our beaches. The beach sweeps take place Oct. 19 from 9 am to 12:30 pm.

Registration is required in order to participate. Visit Clean Ocean Action's website for more information.

The goal of the Beach Sweeps is to reduce and eliminate sources of litter. The Beach Sweeps events are more than people picking-up trash from beaches. Clean Ocean Action compiles the data collected by volunteers from the data cards.

This data has been used in legislation to pass bills that will reduce the waste entering the ocean.

On beach sweep day, be sure to wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes and dress according to the weather conditions.

Bring your own gloves and a reusable water bottle. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own bucket for trash collection, as this helps to reduce the number of plastic bags used.

All other materials to clean the beaches will be provided.
